Tesla Motors Inc. (TSLA) Over-the-air Updates Changing

Tesla Motors Inc. (TSLA) Over-the-air Updates Changing

Federal regulators "did not identify any defects" in Tesla's autopilot feature after a lengthy investigation of the technology, officials announced Thursday.

Over the weekend, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that Autopilot functionality for hardware 2.0-equipped Tesla Model S & X EVs would roll out to the entire fleet.

Tesla recently pushed its Enhanced Autopilot update to its entire second-gen hardware user having earlier put it in shadow mode to limited users only. Per another Musk tweet, Autosteer will only activate below 45 mph, because it's "needed most" in heavy traffic. Please be cautious.Auto steer [where the vehicle keeps itself in lane on the motorway] limited to 45mph on highways for now, ie. heavy traffic, where it is needed most.

New generation Tesla cars also gain Forward Collision Warning (FCW), a feature which alerts the driver of objects in their path, though Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) has been left out this time around. A safety feature that warns drivers alerting them at once when the vehicle is approaching a collision but is totally different from the Automatic Emergency Braking (EAB) and is not part of the update, Slashgear reported.

Back in October, Tesla rolled out a suite of more advanced sensor hardware in its cars - radar, cameras, and an onboard "supercomputer" - but the software that makes the safety and driver assist features work wasn't yet complete. However, Autopilot will only rely on 4 of the 8 cameras. Basically, that just means if your Tesla was built after October 2016, you now have the Enhanced Autopilot system you were missing.

Allegedly an NHTSA spokesman stated that they would be looking into fundamentally changing the recall process for vehicles, when over-the-air updates, such as the one Tesla recently made, which rectified safety hazard issues in their vehicles, becomes more common place.

Among the new features is a speed-limited version of Tesla's Autosteer, which will help the vehicle maintain position within its lane at speeds up to 45 miles per hour.

Autopark: When activated, the auto can steer itself into a parallel or perpendicular parking space.
