Day to play with Tiger, DJ

Day to play with Tiger, DJ

Ever since Nike announced they were discontinuing their production of golf equipment, attentions have been focused on the next moves of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods will tee it up in his first PGA Tour event of 2017 on Tuesday, kicking off a busy month for the former World No. 1 that will see him play four tournaments by the end of February. What gives Torrey Pines the edge over Firestone is that during an 11-year stretch, Woods never finished more than four shots behind the victor against a 156-man field. Woods posted a bogey-free, 7-under-par 65 in the second round in the Hero World Challenge, but he seemed to tire by the fourth round, when he closed with a 76 to finish 15th in the 18-player field.

The 41-year-old toyed with his Twitter fans by promising a...

We had to really dig in this week given the tumultuous results from last year's edition of the Farmer's Insurance Open, and found two guys that simply have what it takes to write their name on the trophy this Sunday... "Then I snap-hooked it against a fence on No. 2".

Here's another way to look at his record: His performance at Torrey Pines alone is better than the PGA Tour careers of every player in the field except for Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day and Padraig Harrington (six victories, but three majors).

Woods sounds like a former flame-throwing pitcher whose fastball once touched 100 miles per hour, but now is trying to win games with craftiness, trying to become a pitcher more than a thrower. "It's been awhile, and so it's nice to start here at Torrey; also go to another place, Dubai, where I've won before as well".

But the course at Torrey Pines is nothing new to him, even if the north course has been completely transformed.

Understand the reality, though: The PGA Tour season just got real. "It's hard to remember when I was this excited because I haven't played in a few years". "I've been away from it for so long".

"I've sat out long enough", Woods said at a press conference at L.A.'s Riviera Country Club, which will host his third stop, the Genesis Open and benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation.

This one counts, and it won't be long before Woods is measured against the rest of the field. Those guys will bomb it out there, that's fine. I'll just play my game.

"You always want to play against and with the best players".

"I'm trying to remind myself, 'Hey, I haven't played in a while".

Here are the five best groups along with tee times for the first two days. The last time he played in such high rough, he said, was at the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, where he missed the cut.
