Facebook Crushes Q4 Earnings, Mobile Ad Revenue Up 80%

Facebook Crushes Q4 Earnings, Mobile Ad Revenue Up 80%

In the last quarter, the company cautioned that it won't be able to continue with this revenue growth as it will run out of the ad space by the mid of 2017. "We announced in December that Instagram now has over 600 million monthly actives and recently passed 400 million daily actives", he said.

In 2017, 45% of Facebook's total ad revenue will come from the US, while it will capture 14.7% of the worldwide digital ad market - making it the second ad publisher behind Google, which has a 31.7% worldwide share. Let's see some more details on the subject.

With regards to number of users, Facebook added 70 million new members to its ranks - getting the total number of users on its platform up to 1.86 billion.

Instagram has officially hit 400 million daily active users, which is a great feat considering the app's history.

Also, mobile advertising revenue accounted for 84% of their total income for fourth quarter 2016, which was an increase from 2015.

Facebook had a great revenue for Q4 2016, earning $8.81 billion in total and $1.41 EPS. The company said that Oculus founder Palmer Luckey "commercially exploited" the computer code of Zenimax and trade secrets in order to develop a specific product.

Still, the company reiterated that it expects its ad revenue growth rate will "come down meaningfully" in 2017. However, with appropriate tempers in the expectations of investors, the company ended the previous year in glory.

Facebook generated almost $20 from each user in the US and Canada during the quarter, up from $13.70 a year earlier as it offers more lucrative video ads. This is all due to the profitable video ads.

Investors cheered, sending the shares, already up more than 2 percent in regular trading Wednesday, to a record-high $133.23 a share, by more than 2 percent in after-hours trading as well.

While the CEO said on Wednesday that he believes in those thoughts "more than ever", Facebook's 160 percent profit increase over the past two years suggests Zuckerberg's social mission is also good business. The company definitely went up a notch from the prior year and it will continue to boost revenue as appropriate steps are taken to ensure positive results. And 1.74 billion of Facebook's 1.86 billion monthly active users were on mobile devices for at least some of their visits.
