Homemade Explosive Thrown Into Calif. Cheesecake Factory

Homemade Explosive Thrown Into Calif. Cheesecake Factory

A busy Thursday evening at the Cheesecake Factory in Old Town Pasadena turned into a nightmare for those dining at the restaurant. Detectives are still working to track down a motive for the incident, but Gourdikian said that "on its face, it looks like a stupid prank".

Shortly after 6 p.m., the man opened the restaurant's front door and threw the device inside, where it landed under an empty table, police say. "It was very chaotic", one diner, Garrett Gunkle said in an interview with NBC Los Angeles.

The suspect reportedly appeared to be about 6 feet tall, thin, bearded and dressed in all black with a black beanie.

Representatives from the popular restaurant chain said no employees or guests were injured during the incident and that the location was expected to reopen on Friday "as usual", according to a statement obtained by The Post. No getaway vehicle was seen. Police are describing the explosive as a homemade pyrotechnic device made with gunpowder.

"It could be a dissatisfied customer, a disgruntled employee", Lt Goodman added.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad rendered the device safe.

A spokeswoman for the Cheesecake Factory, Alethea Rowe, gave the following statement to NBC4 Southern California Friday morning.

Federal authorities were alerted to the incident, police told KABC-TV, but local authorities are handling the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pasadena police at 626-744-4241 or L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
