Trump Acknowledges That The 'Replacement' Of Obamacare Will Span Years

Trump on Sunday touched off an alarm bell among his conservative allies by suggesting in an interview with Bill O'Reilly of Fox News that the task of repealing and replacing the national health insurance program was proving to be far more complicated and hard than he originally assumed - and that congressional action could spill over into 2018.

Amid uncertainty over the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which is commonly known as Obamacare, the fourth open-enrollment period closed at midnight Tuesday. Mr O'Reilly asked the president whether he would introduce a health plan this year to replace Obamacare, which Mr Trump has long vowed to quickly repeal as one of his top priorities.

President Trump may be backpedaling on promises to swiftly repeal and replace Obamacare, reported Politico. "We are putting in a wonderful plan", Mr Trump said.

"Yes, in the process and maybe it'll take till sometime into next year, but we're certainly going to be in the process".

President Trump had disclosed in January that he wanted to present the replacement soon after he confirmed Tom Price as the secretary of health and human services.

The Republican president also noted that the process is "very complicated" - but then urged Americans to remember that "Obamacare is a disaster" and needs to be replaced.

With the Republican party still working on a "comprehensive replacement plan", Americans will have until 2017 to decide what their next steps will be in receiving health insurance for the future.

Rob Casalou, chief executive of the nonprofit St. Joseph Mercy Health System in MI, says legislators he meets with are sympathetic but noncommittal about his health system's funding concerns as repeal and replace winds its way through the legislative process.

"Right now, I'm a little anxious for me and my mother come 2018 because the ACA is in place until the end of 2017", Larissa McFarland a junior general studies major said.

Since then, talk of repealing and replacing Obamacare has become nearly nonexistent, pushed aside by Trump's many executive orders.

Will hospitals return to the pre-Obamacare environment where they relied less on insured patients and more on federal support?

But without a clear plan by Republicans, "it's a moving target", said Jim Matheson, a senior vice president of strategy and marketing with ThedaCare.

All in all, it seems that far too many Americans are convinced an Obamacare repeal will involve getting rid of all the bad stuff and keeping all the good. It took us five years to be in a position to remodel it to our tastes.

Under the Affordable Care Act, canceled policies, elimination of many plans, difficulties in identifying new plans, massive premium increases, sky-high deductibles and limited options for doctors have become the new normal for many American families. "We will fix the damage that Obamacare has caused millions of Americans".
