Verizon resurrects unlimited data, because T-Mobile and AT&T aren't f*cking around

Verizon resurrects unlimited data, because T-Mobile and AT&T aren't f*cking around

Verizon management has argued that T-Mobile and Sprint don't have the network capacity to sustain unlimited data offerings.

Sprint on Friday introduced a new family promotion, offering 5 lines of unlimited data for $90 per month excluding taxes and fees vs. T-Mobile's $180 plan for 5 lines and $160 plan for 4 including taxes and fees. Those of you keeping score at home will notice that's $18 per line, which is a little bit insane. Thereafter, you'll pay $60 per month for the first line and $30 per month for each additional line.

Once you sign up, you'll lock in that discounted rate through March 31, 2018.

Are you a Verizon customer trapped in an old "grandfathered" unlimited data plan? After that date, the price of service will go up: an extra $10 per month for the first line; the second line will stay at $40 per month; and each of the other lines will cost $30 a month. And as Sprint rightly points out, Verizon no longer offers customers to sign-up for new unlimited plans.

Check out Sprint's chart below for a price comparison by carrier. It gives early adopters a little over a year of savings if they sign up now. Open Signal ranked Sprint in the last place among the "Big Four" U.S. carriers in its latest State of Mobile Networks report.

Verizon is stepping up its efforts to lure new customers with the introduction of a new service plan that promises unlimited data.

"With Verizon Unlimited, you also get HD video streaming, Mobile Hotspot, calling and texting to Mexico and Canada and up to 500 MB/day of 4G LTE roaming in Mexico and Canada - included", the company announced in a statement on Sunday.

As for those interested in the unlimited data part, be warned that there will be some throttling to deal with. There is also a limit to the "unlimitedness" of data you can consume freely.
