Trump Asks Black Reporter If She's 'Friends' With Black Caucus

Trump Asks Black Reporter If She's 'Friends' With Black Caucus

The exchange began when April Ryan, White House correspondent and Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks, asked the president if he would hold meetings with black caucus members to help craft his urban development policy.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are expressing bafflement and dismay after President Trump asked a black reporter to set up a meeting with them.

'Are they friends of yours?

If you needed to encapsulate Trump-as-politician in under 30 seconds, you could do worse than this: the short-tempered devolution into schoolyard bullying, the blinding hubris used to cover up a lack of basic knowledge about his job, the casually cruel racism.

The answer came in response to a question about whether he would meet with the Congressional Black Caucus.

"The Congressional Black Caucus", Ryan shot back.

Late in a rollicking and unexpected news conference, Trump took a question from Ryan, who asked about his campaign promise to revitalize the American urban centers he frequently described in bleak terms.

"The president has said many times that he supports this proposal, so I wanted to have our bill ready to get his support", Cummings said.

Donald Trump clearly doesn't know all that based on how he treated Ryan during Thursday's press conference. Very nice guy.He probably was told by Schumer or somebody like that - some other lightweight - he was probably told, 'Don't meet with Trump. "I'm not a facilitator, I'm not a convener", she said. I can't have that meeting'. Trump has called the Palm Beach club his "Winter White House".

"Well, I would. I tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting?"

"Every White House has someone to deal with this kind of meeting", she told Baldwin. "It's bad politics.' And that's part of the problem with this country".

'I was actually looking forward to meeting with the President about the skyrocketing price of prescription drugs, ' he continued, shifting the focus to a pet issue.

"You go to some of the inner city places and it's so sad when you look at the crime", the president said. We sent you a letter on January 19, but you never wrote us back. "So we're going to do a lot of great work on the inner cities".
