Bridging Cong-BJP Gap in Manipur Polls?

Bridging Cong-BJP Gap in Manipur Polls?

The BJP and some other parties have assured of a "blockade-free Manipur" if voted to power.

Unknown people planted a bomb near the office of Sagolband Development Association located at Sagolband Moirang Leirak yesterday around 9:30 pm.

The path ahead looks far from rosy for the Congress due to resignations, the anti-incumbency factor and the warning from an outfit to tribal politicians not to contest on tickets of the Grand Old Party.

While Erabot is a former Congress minister, Henry is chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh's nephew.

N Biren, a long time Congress minister who is now the BJP spokesperson said, "The Congress and the United Naga Integration Council had signed an agreement on August 4, 1972".

The state has been saddled with an indefinite economic blockade since November 1, 2016, imposed by the United Naga Council, causing enormous hardship to the people as the supply of essential commodities, especially fuel, in the land-locked state has choked.

As Manipur welcomed the eagerly awaited month, a month that would decide the political fate of the state as elections are due in just 2 days, a breaking political ruckus has rocked the state after photos and video of BJP Manipur office being attacked by some "so-called" goons emerged on the Facebook page of BJP Manipur. "The notion that both the Centre and Manipur government should act on together is wrong", the noted advocate said.

"Modi ji does not want the people of Manipur, people of the northeastern states, to progress and participate in India's growth story", Surjewala said.

The TMC, which holds power in Bengal and a major force in Parliament with 34 MLAs in the Lok Sabha, had been working hard for the last two years with a new team of leaders in Manipur hoping to play a big role in case of a hung Assembly.

The tiny northeastern state has been facing an economic blockade since November 1 previous year in protest against the creation of seven new districts. Accordingly, BJP has focussed on highlighting corruption under the Ibobi government, while Congress has made the territorial integrity of Manipur its main poll plank. "The Congress is beating the same drum leaving out important issues".
