Chance the Rapper's meeting with Gov. Bruce Rauner didn't go very well

Chance the Rapper's meeting with Gov. Bruce Rauner didn't go very well

Following Chance's impressive night at the Grammys, in which he took home three awards including Best New Artist, Governor Rauner tweeted his praise, "Congrats to Chance The Rapper for making history as an independent artist and taking home 3 Grammys". After the meeting, Rauner's told reporters that they had a "good exchange of views on what the options are, what the possibilities are". "I thought that went a little different than it should have". So we'll see what happens.

Chicago Public Schools upped the stakes of the lawsuit Monday when it warned that the school year could end June 1 - almost three weeks early - and summer school programs could be cut without a preliminary ruling in the school board's favor from Judge Franklin Ulyses Valderrama.

"We agreed we are going to talk more", Rauner said. "I asked him about funding CPS with that $215 million that was discussed in May of a year ago and was vetoed in December".

"I said, if we stood together Chance, I have some power". CPS said the move was necessary after the state failed to pass a proposed budget that included $215 million allocated for district spending. "If we stood together, work together to figure this out, I think we could get big things done, and I'd be excited to do that with you".

After the meeting took place, Chance spoke to media who were gathered in the Thompson Center and he didn't exactly sound happy with how the conversation went.

Rauner characterized the meeting as positive, noting that Chance was "very focused on getting quickly more money for CPS right now, and I share his passion". He has my personal number...

"I'm here because I just want people to do their jobs", explained the Coloring Book artist, who reached out to Rauner about a sit-down after the governor congratulated him on his recent Grammy wins. The two sat down today (March 3rd) to discuss education reform, and Chance appeared disappointed upon exiting that tete-a-tete. "Please don't let that become the narrative".
