Meet young Jack Sparrow in new Pirates of the Caribbean 5 trailer

It's not clear whether or not the young Sparrow is played by a Johnny Depp doppelganger or is digitally de-aged like Princess Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin were in "Star Wars: Rogue One". And Orlando Bloom will pop back up as a barnacle-clad Will Turner, captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Now Disney has released a new trailer concentrating more on the complete story arc and character motivations that provide a better understanding of the players involved. The trailers for Dead Men Tell No Tales have really pulled back on showing Sparrow, and it's not exactly clear why.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in the USA, but I've heard rumors it could have the subtitle of "Salazar's Revenge" when it is released in the UK.

His costume is pure Jack Sparrow and he has on a hat and long hair, but he is clean shaven and thinner.

In the new footage, which premiered on Ellen Thursday, Disney lovers learn that Salazar was once out to eliminate all pirates, but everything changed when he met Jack as a boy.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" opens Memorial Day weekend, May 26th, 2017.

It's Captain Jack's mission, in this new film, to catch the ghost of Armando, the pirate hater, who has escaped from the Devil's Triangle. Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth, a brilliant and attractive astronomer, and Henry, a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. The movie will also feature Javier Bardem, Orlando Bloom and Skins actress Kaya Scodelario.

The latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie is directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the duo behind the foreign adventure film Kon-Tiki.
