Bills sticking with QB Tyrod Taylor after reworking contract

Bills sticking with QB Tyrod Taylor after reworking contract

The team had a deadline of March 11 to decide to keep Taylor or cut the quarterback loose.

Taylor made things even more hard on the Bills this offseason, when he had surgery to fix a sports hernia in January.

"We are excited about the opportunity to keep Tyrod with the Bills", said head coach Sean McDermott in a statement. "Doug [Whaley, the GM] and I are confident this was the best move for the Bills at this time".

In Taylor's second season as a starter in 2016, he completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 3,023 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Hours later, with Tyrod in the fold, the Bills starting quarterback was likely settled and Hoyer was looking elsewhere.

With Taylor in Buffalo for the next two to five years, the team can now shift their attention to filling other needs, like who Taylor will throw the ball to and improving the defence.

Especially with the firing of Rex Ryan at the end of last season and Taylor being benched, it was unclear of how the team would handle the Taylor situation. Zach Brown responded back with, "Bro, I'm a miss playing next to you on Sundays, my brother". The Bills had until Saturday to make a decision on Taylor's 2017 contract option. The Bills did not immediately release financial details of Taylor's new contract, but it's safe to assume his 2017 cap hit will fall well below that number.

Remove one National Football League team from the offseason's quarterback carousel.
