Another legal challenge to revised Trump travel ban

Another legal challenge to revised Trump travel ban

A USA district judge will not rule on the revised executive order from President Donald Trump.

A number of states are gearing up with legal challenges opposing Mr Trump's revised order, which suspends refugee admissions for 120 days and halts the granting of new visas for travellers from Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Sudan.

"We anticipated several states will challenge it legally", Conway said on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor" Friday.

A federal judge in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order halting Trump's initial travel ban order after Washington state and Minnesota sued. "In so doing, he also gave both parties an opportunity to fully evaluate whether proceeding in his court is the optimal path for resolving the constitutionality of the second Executive Order". The states of Washington and Minnesota, as well as the Justice Department, have only filed notices.

Ferguson said on Thursday that it's not the government, but the court, that gets to decide whether the revised order is different enough that it would not be covered by previous temporary restraining order.

Ferguson said he was pleased other that attorneys general had sought to take part in the legal action.

"Bans like those included in this order are harmful to USA national security and beneath the dignity of our great nation".

In succeeding with the first ban, they argued the move was unconstitutional and damaging to businesses in Washington state.

"This is effectively a Muslim ban".

"President Trump's revised executive order is still a Muslim ban and it's still bigoted and un-American", said Rabbi Jack Moline, president of the Interfaith Alliance.

The reason for his hesitation is likely the far narrower scope of the order - a change that has won over critics of the first ban like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

The new order also drops Iraq from the targeted list of countries whose citizens are barred from traveling to the United States, not because the administration suddenly deemed them a diminished threat but because alienating Iraq was a grievous diplomatic and military blunder.

The new order denies US entry to all refugees for 120 days and halts for 90 days the granting of visas to nationals from Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and Sudan.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey says her state is joining Washington state's lawsuit against President Donald Trump's revised travel ban.

Spicer said during the White House briefing Thursday that administration officials "feel very confident with how that was crafted and the input that was given".
