Iran receives second post-sanctions Airbus plane

Iran receives second post-sanctions Airbus plane

The delivery, which took place at the Airbus delivery centre in Toulouse, marks yet another milestone for Iran Air, as it celebrates its 56 anniversary since establishment.

Iran Air has taken delivery of its first new Airbus A330 as part of its fleet renewal.

The second airbus passenger plane, purchased from the French company following the removal of western sanctions against the Islamic republic, landed in the capital Tehran on Saturday.

It joins a medium-haul A321 delivered earlier this year.

The aircraft has 238 seats including 36 business class seats.

CEO Iran Air Mr. Farhad Parvaresh and Deputy Minister for International Affairs at the Ministry of Road and Urban Development Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan were onboard the newly-purchased aircraft.

Officials attend a ceremony held beside the Airbus A330-200 after it touched down at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. A smaller plane, an Airbus A320 for use on shorter flights, arrived in Tehran in January.

In 2016, Iran inked another agreement worth 16.6 billion dollars to buy 80 new planes from U.S. aviation company Boeing, comprising 50 737 airliners and 30 777s.

IranAir is also in talks to finalise a deal to buy 20 aircraft from European turboprop maker ATR.

The deliveries come after US-imposed sanctions against Iran were partly lifted a year ago. It was finalized on July 14, 2015 and started being implemented on January 16, 2016.
