Larry Sanders, Cleveland Cavaliers Reportedly Agree to Contract

Larry Sanders, Cleveland Cavaliers Reportedly Agree to Contract

According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a deal with free agent center Larry Sanders. Sanders is taking his physical and once it's completed, he will sign for the remainder of the season, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced any roster moves.

After a long hiatus, Larry Sanders reportedly signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After signing a four-year, $44 million extension in 2013, the center dealt with several significant injuries, including a thumb injury suffered in a nightclub altercation and an orbital fracture. He violated the NBA's drug policy four times with positive marijuana tests, and after leaving the National Basketball Association, he checked himself into a hospital for anxiety and depression.

The Cavs were looking for a big man following the injury to Bogut.

With Kevin Love out for at least a few more weeks after undergoing knee surgery in February, the Cavs will be happy to have Sanders' defensive rebounding ability.

In an interview with The Players' Tribune, he revealed that he was battling depression and anxiety at that time and sought help from doctors at Rogers Memorial Hospital. Tristan Thompson is now the only true center on the Cleveland roster and it is showing with the team struggling to rebound the ball in some of their more recent losses. Bogut is expected to be waived to clear a roster spot for Sanders.

It is not yet known when Sanders will make his debut with the Cavs, but the team will play its next game on Tuesday night against the Detroit Pistons at Quicken Loans Arena at 7.

He hasn't played in a game since the 2014-15 season. "Why not? Everyone deserves a second chance, and it looks like he wants to get back to playing the game he loves, and hopefully this is his destination".

The 6-foot-11, 230-pound center averaged 6.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game during his career.
