Schultz, Curley pleaded guilty in Sandusky scandal

Schultz, Curley pleaded guilty in Sandusky scandal

Ex-Athletic Director Tim Curley and ex-Vice President Gary Schultz were initially charged with felonies - but struck a deal in which they agreed to plead guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge.

Former Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and former senior vice president Gary Schultz pleaded guilty on Monday to a misdemeanor count of child endangerment in Jerry Sandusky molestation scandal.

Former Penn State president Graham Spanier is now the only man set to stand trial for criminal negligence, with Thompson reporting both Curley and Schultz could now potentially testify against Spanier for the prosecution following their guilty pleas.

Three handled a 2001 complaint by a graduate assistant who said he saw Sandusky, a retired defensive football coach, sexually abusing a boy in a team shower. The three men did not report the account to police or child welfare authorities, instead opting to tell Sandusky he wasn't allowed to bring children to Penn State anymore. One of Sandusky's sons, Jeffrey Sandusky, was recently arrested and charged with sexual assault of a minor. Sandusky is serving 30 to 60 years in prison - - with accusations stemming as far back as the 1970s.

Penn State's overall costs related to the Sandusky scandal are reportedly approaching a quarter-billion dollars.

Paterno died in January 2012, several months after he was sacked amid allegations that he knew about Sandusky's abuses and failed to act.

In the fall of 2016, McQueary was awarded more than $12 million in a civil lawsuit against Penn State that claimed defamation, intentional misrepresentation and violation of the state's whistleblower law.

Baldwin previously agreed to represent Spanier, Curley and Shultz when Penn State received a subpoena.

The university and its football program faced NCAA sanctions in the fallout of Sandusky's charges and conviction. The wins were later restored.
