Federer wins his fifth title at Indian Wells

Federer wins his fifth title at Indian Wells

Roger Federer has played in three tournaments this season, and he has now won two of them.

And when Federer's turn came, he said that he was only trying to cheer up Wawrinka. After his remarkable 2017 Australian Open victory, albeit aided by early upsets suffered by top seeds Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, Federer is already viewed as one of the favourites at this year's Wimbledon. Wawrinka has been tucked under Federer's shadow for all of his career, but he has managed to emerge into the light in the last three years, winning three major titles and of course claiming the Davis Cup with Federer in 2014. Just being here is a attractive feeling. It's one of my favourite tournaments. I wouldn't have dreamed that a few years ago and now it's the second we played. "So to be here again as the champion is an fantastic feeling".

The victory took only 1 hour 20 minutes and was Federer's 20th in 23 tries against Wawrinka.

3 cried and jokingly said: 'I would like to congratulate Roger. "He's laughing, he's an (expletive), but it's OK". "I'm not as surprised as I was in Australia, but still this comes as a big, big surprise to me". "So congratulations on your comeback and congratulations on today".

Federer dropped serve just once in five matches, losing the first game of the second set against No. 3 seed Wawrinka.

Federer hit ten winners in the opening set, including a trademark single-handed backhand rocket in the first game. He rallied from 15-30 down in that game to finish the set on his first break-point opportunity of the day. Wawrinka had 17 winners and 21 unforced errors in front of the announced crowd of 17,382 that didn't fill the stadium.

The video is a more polished performance than the group's first effort at the number, which Federer unveiled during the Australian Open in January. But Vesnina broke back and served out the set 7-5.

He would stay on the scene for some more time, and as long as he can win titles, why should he call it quits?

Sidelined some six months after knee surgery previous year, Federer came back to win his 18th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January.
